Globalisation & Theology
On this page you'll find more than 50 documents on globalisation and the churches.
On March 31st, 2005 Oikos organised a conference on Theology & Globalisation. At this conference more than 350 theologians spoke about globalisation and theology.
Speech Aruna Gnanadason
Towards the end of July 2004, delegations from over 200 Congregational, Presbyterian, Reformed, and United churches in more than 100 countries gathered in Accra, Ghana, to bear witness to their common faith in the lordship of Jesus Christ. With a reminder that God comes before country, the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC) has called on its member churches around the world to become active peacemakers, particularly in the face of religious and ethnic conflicts.

Letter from Accra
Oikos took part in the organisation of the Conference on the churches in 'Western Europe's Response to Economic Globalisation with Special Focus on Financial Markets'. The aim of this conference was to give an answer to questions which were formulated by the Churches in the South and the East at conferences on globalisation. These churches call for solidarity in their search for an alternative to economic globalisation.
The churches of the South and the East asked the churches in Western Europe and Northern America for a position statement on economic globalisation. The latter two were also asked to discuss the effects of globalisation on their society and their judgement on these effects. The Dutch Council of Churches had allready written a draft paper about the effects of globalisation on Dutch society. Other churches also wrote a document (see below).
The conference took place 15-20 June 2002 in Soesterberg, The Netherlands. Delegations of European churches, experts on international financial matters and other guests participated in this first ecumenical conference in Western Europe.
